Families Turn to Symbolic Cremation After Nepal Floods

Big floods happen in Nepal. Many people are still missing after these floods. Families look for their loved ones, but they cannot find them. They start to lose hope of finding the bodies.

When a family cannot find a body, they sometimes do a special ceremony. This is a sad time for them. A son has a sacred duty to his father. He wants to honor him.

So, the son makes a doll from straw. This doll looks like his father. He then lights a fire for this straw doll. This is a symbolic cremation. It helps families to say goodbye and remember the person, even if the body is not there.
