Cuba says no negotiations with US despite ‘genocidal’ blockade

Cuba has declared that it will not engage in negotiations with the United States. This firm stance comes despite ongoing severe economic challenges within the country. Cuban officials describe the long-standing US policy as a 'genocidal embargo,' which they claim has caused immense hardship for the Cuban population.

According to Cuba's foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez, the nation has recently experienced record financial losses as a direct result of the US economic measures. He explained that these measures significantly impede Cuba's ability to trade and develop, leading to widespread difficulties. Furthermore, he highlighted that the Cuban people have been enduring months of 'punishing blackouts,' which seriously affect daily life and essential services, demonstrating the severe impact of these sanctions.

The Cuban government believes that the US policy aims to destabilize the country and obstruct its progress. They argue that these restrictions negatively affect access to vital goods, including food and medicine, causing significant suffering among citizens. For these reasons, Cuba maintains its position: there will be no talks with the US until the blockade is lifted or fundamentally changed, emphasizing that true dialogue requires an end to what they consider an aggressive and harmful policy.
