UN votes to adopt new world map that shows Africa’s true scale

The United Nations makes a big decision about world maps. They want to show Africa's true size. An old map, called the Mercator map, makes Africa look small. It shows Africa as almost the same size as Greenland. But Africa is much, much bigger than Greenland in real life. This old map is from the 16th century, a very long time ago.

Now, the UN wants to change this. They vote for a new map. This new map is based on a design from 2018. It is called the Equal Earth map. This new map shows countries in their correct size. This is important for everyone to learn about the world correctly.

The country of Togo helps with this decision. They ask the UN to stop using the old Mercator map. The UN agrees. So, now the world will use a new map. This new map is better because it shows Africa how big it really is. It helps people understand geography in a better way and learn about the real world.
