China Wants Its Data to Power the World’s A.I.

China is advancing its ambitions in the field of Artificial Intelligence, moving beyond merely exporting A.I. models. The nation now seeks to significantly expand its global influence by ensuring its vast datasets are used to train and shape the world's most popular A.I. systems, including advanced chatbots. This strategic move is a critical development because data acts as the fundamental building block for A.I., determining how these intelligent systems understand information and respond to user queries.

The central concern surrounding this initiative is the potential for Beijing's government-approved viewpoints and information control to become embedded within global A.I. technology. When A.I. models are trained extensively on data that reflects specific political or cultural perspectives, they can inadvertently, or intentionally, reproduce those perspectives in their interactions.
