Almost half of world’s farmers poisoned by pesticides every year, experts find

Many people work on farms. They grow food for us. Sometimes, these workers use chemicals called pesticides. Pesticides help plants grow, but they can also be dangerous. Farmers use them to keep bugs away from crops.

A new study says that almost half of the world's farm workers get sick every year. They get sick from these pesticides. This is a very big problem. The study looked at information from many years, from 2006 to 2023. It says that between 402 and 433 million people get sick each year from this. This sickness is a type of poison. The workers do not mean to get sick, but it happens because of the chemicals.

Also, this problem kills many people. Every year, 11,000 people die because of pesticide poison. In one country, India, almost 60% of these deaths happen. This study helps us understand how dangerous pesticides are for people who work on farms around the world.
