Opinion: Algae doesn't care about our party lines

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is a famous place in Washington D.C. It is a long area of water. Many people visit it. A few years ago, President Trump started a big plan to make this water area look better. This plan was a 'beautification project'. It was very expensive. The cost was about $14 million. Workers put a special blue color on the bottom of the pool. They hoped this would make the water look nice, like the American flag.

However, there is a new problem now. The water in the pool is not looking good. It has a lot of green stuff called algae. Algae grows quickly in water, and it makes the water look dirty. Even with all the money spent and the blue color, the algae is still a big problem. The pool does not look very clean because of all this algae.

So, the expensive plan to make the pool beautiful did not work perfectly. The algae keeps growing. It covers the blue color at the bottom. This means the water area still needs attention to stay clean and clear for all the visitors.
